Distance did not decide places here
Every applicant who applied on time was offered a place for 2026-27 (Year 7), so there was no cut-off distance. This changes from year to year; check the current year's figures before relying on it.
How places were offered at Sandy Secondary School, year by year →
When there are more applications than places for 2024-25 (Year 9), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.
If two applications tie: The distance the student lives from the school, measured in a straight line, using the Local Authority's computerised measuring system, with those living closer to the school receiving the higher priority. The distance will be measured from the address point of the student's home to a centrally marked point on the school site. In the event of (a) two or more children living at the same address point (e.g., children resident in a block of flats) or (b) two addresses measuring the same distance from the school, the ultimate tiebreaker will be random selection, using the School Admission Team database to allocate the place.
Students with a Statement of Special Educational Needs or Education, Health and Care Plan are required to be admitted to the academy/school named in the Statement or Plan and will be allocated a place ahead of those without. Students identified for admission through the Fair Access Protocol will also be admitted even if the school is full. Sixth Form entry requires minimum 8 GCSEs at grades 9-4 and at least grade 6 in subjects to be studied at A level.
Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
