When there are more applications than places for 2026-27 (Reception), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.
If two applications tie: Distance is measured from the grid reference of the property to the grid reference of the school (as recorded in the GIS system). If the L.A. has the situation where any home addresses calculate the same distance, then a trundle wheel will be used to establish the nearest address. If, when applying the oversubscription criteria, the last child to be admitted is one of a multiple birth e.g. twin or triplet, then the LA will also admit the other sibling(s).
Criterion 2 has an internal order the council prints as a note rather than as separate ranks: within the catchment, children WITH a sibling already at the school are admitted before children without one. Living in the catchment area gives no automatic right to a place — an application must still be made. A sibling is a brother/sister, half-brother/sister (sharing one common parent), or stepbrother/stepsister related by marriage, including adopted or fostered children living at the same address. Where parents share responsibility and the child lives with both for part of the week, the home address is the one to which Child Benefit is paid; the address must be occupied by the family, not merely owned. Children of UK service personnel are treated as in catchment where the application is accompanied by an official MOD letter declaring a definite return date and confirming the new address. A pupil with a statement of SEN or an IDP naming the school will be admitted regardless, including over the admission number and over infant class size limits. Refused applicants remain on a waiting list until 30 September, after which a new application is needed. Where a school has reached its admission number in the current nursery and in-catchment pupils exceed 70%, only pupils resident in the catchment area will be admitted into an Early Years placement. Admission to a separate infant school carries NO automatic right to continued education at the feeder junior school serving the same catchment area — a formal transfer application is required.
Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
