Elmlea Junior School

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 3), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Children in Care — Children in Care or children who were previously in Care but immediately after being in Care became subject to an adoption, child arrangement order, or special guardianship order. Children in care are children who are in the care of a local authority or provided with accommodation by that authority in accordance with section 22 of the Children Act 1989. In certain circumstances, a Child in Public Care may be admitted to a school even though the school is fully subscribed in the relevant year group.
2. 2Siblings — Where there are siblings in attendance at Elmlea Infant or Elmlea Junior School and who will still be on roll in the year of entry.
3. 3Children of Staff — Children of staff directly employed by Russell Education Trust on a permanent full time or fractional contract at Elmlea Infant or Junior School in either of the following circumstances: a. The member of staff has been employed for two years or more before the admission application and is still employed, without having given notice or been given notice that the employment will end, at the time the offer is made. b. The member of staff is recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstratable skill shortage (determined by the Headteacher with the Chair of Governors and CEO of RET).
4. 4Geography — Children living closest to the school as measured in a direct line from the home address to the school, with priority being given to those who live nearest to the school in a direct line as the crow flies. Home to school distances will be measured in a direct line from a point on the home address as held by the Local Authority, defined in the Local Land and Property Gazetteer, to a point within the main school building using the Local Authorities computerised mapping system.

If two applications tie: Where there are more applications than there are places remaining within a particular category, the direct distance from home to school will be used as a tie-break. When the further distance to qualify for a place relates to a household containing two or more children for whom applications are made (e.g. twins, triplets etc.), the remaining child will also be offered a place above the PAN, if necessary. Where two or more children live in a flat or other multi-home dwelling and it is not possible to determining which applicant lives closest to the school as measured in a direct line from building to school; the available place(s) will be allocated by drawing lots.

This document covers two schools: Elmlea Infant School (Reception, PAN 90) and Elmlea Junior School (Year 3, PAN 90). The criteria above are for Elmlea Infant School. Elmlea Junior School shares the same oversubscription criteria order. Year 2 children at Elmlea Infant School are offered Year 3 places at Elmlea Junior School automatically before the oversubscription criteria apply. Children with EHCPs follow transfer arrangements set out in the Code of Practice and are not subject to general admissions arrangements.

Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
