School Atlas lists 47 state primary schools, 10 state secondary schools, 2 special schools, 1 alternative provision school and 2 post-16 schools and colleges in Brighton and Hove. It also lists 16 independent schools and 125 nurseries and other early-years settings.
Of the state primary, secondary and all-through schools, 15 have a religious character: 8 Church of England and 7 Roman Catholic.
Of the 57 state primary, secondary and all-through schools in Brighton and Hove, 28 hold an Ofsted overall-effectiveness grade from their last graded inspection: 27 Good and 1 Requires improvement.
Ofsted stopped giving state schools a single overall grade in September 2024. Since November 2025 its report cards grade each area separately; 12 of these schools have had one.
