Glasgow P1 Registration for August 2027: Dates and How to Find Your Catchment School

Key takeaways
- Glasgow City Council registers children starting Primary 1 in August 2027 from Monday 2 to Friday 6 November 2026. Apply online by Friday 6 November.

- Thinking of deferring? Still register at your catchment school until your deferral is confirmed.
If your child turns five between March 2027 and February 2028, Glasgow's first school deadline comes early: registration for Primary 1 runs in the first week of November 2026, about nine months before the first day of school. This guide covers who registers, what you'll need, and what to do if the school you want isn't your catchment school. It is based on Glasgow City Council's own P1 enrolment page.
When is P1 registration in Glasgow?

The council says families will be told their confirmed P1 place no later than February 2027.
What you'll need
Who starts P1 in August 2027?
In Glasgow, a child starts in August 2027 if they turn five between 1 March 2027 and 28 February 2028, so children born between 1 March 2022 and 28 February 2023. A child who won't yet be five on the first day of term can defer their start by a year. Since August 2023, every child whose start is deferred this way can have another year of funded early learning and childcare.
If you're considering deferring, the council asks you to register for your catchment school anyway until your deferral application is confirmed.
How do I find my catchment school?
If you live in Glasgow, you must register your child at one of your catchment schools, and you can choose between your non-denominational and your Roman Catholic catchment school. The council has its own school catchment lookup. Our Glasgow catchment checker also shows the nearby schools for a postcode and whether the address is inside each one's catchment, and you can browse every Glasgow catchment on the map.
Check the boundary for your exact address, not just your street: boundaries can split streets.
What if I want a school outside my catchment?
Make a placing request: the legal right in Scotland to ask for a place at a school that isn't your catchment school. Glasgow asks you to register at your local catchment school first, then submit its online placing request form.
The council must grant a placing request unless one of the grounds set out in the Education (Scotland) Act 1980 applies, for example that the school would go over capacity, would need an extra class or teacher, or must keep places for children likely to move into its catchment. If a request is refused, you can refer it to an appeal committee within 28 days, and then appeal to the sheriff. A child with a co-ordinated support plan appeals to the Additional Support Needs Tribunal instead.
A successful placing request replaces your catchment place
Living elsewhere in Scotland?
Every Scottish council runs its own P1 registration and sets its own dates, so check your council's website. The same rule decides who starts in August 2027 across Scotland. Our Edinburgh catchment checker and guide to Scottish catchments and placing requests work the same way for every council.
