How places are decided at St James Church of England Primary School, Handsworth

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Reception), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1Looked after and previously looked after children — Looked after children or children who were previously looked after (including previously looked after children from outside England), irrespective of their faith.
2Sibling — Children with a brother or sister already at the school who will still be in attendance at the time the child enters the school, excluding those children attending nursery or a sixth form (and excluding those in year 6 at the time of the application), irrespective of their faith.
3Children who live nearest to the school — Children who live nearest to the school.

Determined oversubscription criteria for Birmingham community and voluntary controlled infant, primary and secondary schools for September 2027 entry, transcribed verbatim from the council’s determined arrangements. Within each category, priority is given to those who live nearest to the school, measured in a straight line from the child’s home address to a designated point on the school premises. A child with an Education, Health and Care Plan naming the school must be admitted; that is not an oversubscription criterion. Admission to a nursery school or class gives no priority or additional right to transfer to Reception — a separate application must be made.

Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
